Aquatic Centre

Welcome to the U of C Aquatic Centre!

You're never too young or too old to learn a new trick. The Aquatic Centre offers a variety of open recreation activities, fitness programs, swimming lessons and certification courses for infants to adults. The Aquatic Centre caters to the general public as well as university students, alumni, faculty and staff.

The centre is one of Canada's premier training facilities and home to some of Canada's top Olympians including Joanne Malar, Morgan Knabe and Alexandra Lys. Past Olympic medalists from the program include Tom Ponting, Jon Cleveland, Mark Tewksbury, Penny Heynes and Curtis Myden.

AQUATIC CENTRE SCHEDULES

The pool is ready to open early!  We won’t be able to open up to a full schedule, but we’ve added swims for this Tuesday - Friday.

Shutdown this year was a huge success, some of the items that we worked on:

  • New MCC control panel.
  • New Check valves (which prevent water loss in cases of power failures)
  • All Chlorine and PH parts inspected and repaired
  • Pool basin and deck area Acidized
  • Tile and grout repairs on pool basin and deck
  • Filters cleaned and repaired
  • Many other behind the scenes cleaning

Special thanks to our UofC lifeguard crew, along with faculty and campus departments and trades who all worked extremely hard.

The University of Calgary Aquatic Centre is looking for energetic, reliable and enthusiastic individuals who like to work as a team!

The UCAC employs up to 45 lifeguards/Instructors. We hire new staff in early September, January, and April.

Helpful Tips:
Resumes should include:

  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • References
  • Criminal record check - Vulnerable Sector Search (Current within 6 months)
  • Copy of all awards

All Awards must be current at the time of application.

  • National Lifeguard Service- Pool Option- within 2 years
  • Water Safety Instructor- within 2 years
  • Standard First Aid- within 2 years
  • CPR-C- within 1 year

CALA, Pool Operator 1 and 2, Lifesaving Instructor, WHIMIS, TDG, and Lifesaving Examiner are all assets.

All UCAC Instructors and Lifeguards must complete specific physical requirements, such as:

  • A 20 metre sprint & 20 metre victim carry, under 60 seconds
  • 10 minutes of treading water, with both wrists out of the water
  • 20 pound brick retrieval from bottom of the deep end (16 feet)
  • A pulmonary assessment test
  • All UCAC Instructors and Lifeguards must teach 1 complete set of Saturday Red Cross lessons per year to maintain active status.
