Active Living 2012 Survey Results

Thank you for taking part in the 2012 Active Living survey!

The information you provided has helped us to improve our service and more accurately respond to your needs. Here's an update on some of the things we've done as a result of your feedback.

1. Overall you thought the money you pay to support your Active Living (formerly Campus Recreation) facilities is money well spent - however you said that you wished our programs were more affordable.

We heard you. Money generated from our programming goes back to sustain our Active Living operations, and allows us to do far more than simply operate a fitness centre. Having said that, we looked for ways to get more affordable programming to students. First of all we introduced a student credit - $25 that students can use toward an Active Living program, or Outdoor Centre program or rental. Your credit is attached to your ID number. You must register in person (at the Outdoor Centre, or the Active Living Client Services desk.) Find out more.

We also looked at the popularity and success of the Students' Union's "Five Days of Fitness" Program, and instead of re-inventing the wheel, we asked if we could help by supporting the program and even offering more free programming in our own facility. We've done that, and you've responded - the programs are more popular than ever. In winter 2013 we're looking at helping the SU to expand their programming even more.

2. You asked us to bring back drop in student gymnastics.

We did that. We've added professional coaches and brought back the popular Tuesday and Thursday night classes. They are packed every week!

3. You were displeased with the condition of the locker rooms.

We don't actually do maintenance of our locker room facilities, but working with our partners at the University of Calgary and the Faculty of Kinesiology, we are working to improve conditions and maintenance. We hope as a result of our efforts,  you'll see a marked improvement in the coming year.

4. You thought that some of our weights and Fitness Centre equipment needed replacing.

We agreed and invested a lot of money in new weights, platforms and benches. We are continuing to work on upgrading the facility to keep pace with the extremely heavy usage.

Once again, thanks for telling us what you think - we're always looking for your input, active [at] ucalgary [dot] ca

We'll be conducting another member survey in the spring of 2013.
